Week 1 of 2013 has passed. How are you feeling? Disappointed? Content? Guilty? Frustrated? Happy?
2013 represents a new start and with new beginnings we become obsessed with transformation. However, a laundry list of resolutions focused on everything we hate about ourselves and our lives is not the answer.
This is one of the many lessons that yoga has taught me. Yoga focuses on intentions, sankalpa. These intentions are not outcomes but a path that takes us to where we want go. This path allows ourselves to be present, reflective and positive by taking us to the best place where you can be. By being the best person you can be and living your life how life should be: with courage, strength and love. Just like practicing yoga. It’s not about the physical poses but the actions behind them. It’s all about the journey.
Classes this week focused on intention setting. Letting go on what we want to fix about ourselves and moving forward on a path that gives us courage, strength and love for ourselves. Twists, core work and balancing defined this theme throughout class.
Quotes used in class:
“The more you are motivated by love, the more fearless and free your action will be”
– Dalai Lama
“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. What your actions they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny.”
– UpanishadsÂ
